This holiday to Northern Ireland brings you Belfast, the birthplace of Titanic, the Giants Causeway and the Antrim Coast, as well as Mount Stewart House & Gardens.
Belfast Guided Step on Tour | Titanic Belfast | Giants Causeway | Mount Stewart House & Gardens
We depart from your home and travel to Holyhead and join our ferry to Dublin. On arrival in Dublin we continue to our hotel in Belfast.
Northern Irelands capital Belfast has become increasingly popular as a destination, and we begin today with a step on guided tour through the citys four quarters, taking in the many highlights including City Hall, Queens University, the Opera House and the Botanic Gardens. This afternoon we enjoy a visit to Titanic Belfast, located beside the Titanic Slipways, the Harland & Wolff Drawing Offices and Hamilton Graving Dock the very place where Titanic was designed, built and launched, Titanic Belfast tells the story of Titanic from her conception, through her construction and launch, to her maiden voyage and subsequent place in history.
Today we take in one of the most remarkable ocean drives; the Antrim Coast Road with its unspoilt views of the Irish Sea and Glens of Antrim. We arrive at the Giants Causeway, a UNESCO World Heritage Site famous for its unique volcanic stone pillars and shrouded in folklore and fairy tales. Please note there is a Translink minibus operating from the visitor centre to the causeway if needed, this costs 1 Euro each way.
Today we visit Mount Stewart House & Gardens. Located on the shores of Strangford Lough. Home of the Stewart family, Marquesses of Londonderry, for over 250 years, this recently restored and much-loved family home offers a wealth of treasures. The wonderfully atmospheric garden, with its series of formal themed garden compartments, full of rare and tender plants from across the globe, has been voted as one of the top ten gardens in the world.
Within the 80 acre 19th century garden with its lake and specimen trees, a series of intricately designed and brilliantly planted formal gardens were laid out around the house at a time when garden design had reached an exquisite peak. Offering beautiful contrasts of mood, the gardens move from the geometric parterres of sizzling reds, yellows and oranges on one side of the Italian garden and silvers and mauves on the other, to the cool greens and curvaceous design of the Spanish garden with its circular pool overlooked by a pantiled loggia and screened by arches of clipped leylandii.
The House & Gardens are popular for many reasons, which include: Former home to a fascinating array of political leaders and society figures World famous painting of Hambletonian by George Stubbs Remarkable embroidered chairs used at the Congress of Vienna in 1815 Famous gardens of international importance European Garden of Inspiration 2003 Formal gardens of clipped topiary, statuary and magnificent colour schemes Picturesque lake surrounded by beautiful swathes of woodland Dramatic views across Strangford Lough from the Temple of the Winds New garden shop.
After breakfast we leave our hotel and make our journey back to Dublin and our ferry and onward journey home.
