HOLIDAY HIGHLIGHTS

Samlesbury Hall   |   Southport   |   Lancaster   |   Morecambe   |   Bents Garden & Home Centre   |   Ribchester Roman Museum   |   Lytham St Annes & Windmill

DAY ONE – Samlesbury Hall and Arrival

We depart from your home and we begin our day with a visit to the magnificent Samlesbury Hall. Dating back to 1325, Samlesbury Hall was originally built under the instruction of Gilbert de Southworth as his family seat.  A simple structure with a thatched roof, it bore little resemblance to the black and white half-timbered stately home you see today. At different times in the past the building has been an inn, a private school, and a home for fabric weavers before continuing to Southport, arriving mid-afternoon you will have time to relax before dinner this evening.

DAY TWO – Ribchester Roman Museum and Southport

We begin our day a short journey to The Ribchester Roman Museum - Lancashire’s only dedicated Roman antiquities museum.  You can explore the fascinating ancient Roman history of this picturesque village on the banks of the river Ribble that was once the Roman cavalry fort and settlement of Bremetenacum Veteranorum.

We’ll then make our way back to Southport, where you have the rest of the day at leisure.

DAY THREE – Lancaster and Morecambe

Our day takes us to Lancaster, one of England’s ‘Heritage Cities’. During our visit you could visit Lancaster’s castle and museums to uncover the city’s ancient stories hidden in its walls and buildings or spend time on the high street or watching the world go by in a café or a park.

This afternoon we then travel to the seaside town of Morecambe. Stroll along Morecambe’s award-winning promenade with an ice cream and enjoy the views across the bay or perhaps visit the boutique stores and gift shops along the Promenade.

DAY FOUR – Lytham St Annes and Departure

This morning after a leisurely breakfast, we visit Lytham and St Annes. Making our first stop at the Windmill, found on Lytham Green it was a working mill until 1921. the Windmill, acts as a tourist information point during the open seasons and contains a series of exhibits focused on the ‘History of Mills and Milling’ and the ‘Heritage of Lytham St Annes and the Fylde area’.

The dual seaside towns are nestled along a picturesque stretch of coastline lined with well-tended lawns, a boating lake and pretty parks.

We will then make our journey home, with comfort stops en route.
