Discover Britains pioneering role in aviation at the fascinating Jet Age Museum.
We depart from your home and travel to Bristol, journeying through the Cheddar Gorge, we stop at the centre and explore the Museum of Prehistory. You can also take refreshments in the café and look in the gift shop before we continue our journey to our hotel. On arrival we have a welcome tea/coffee with time then to relax before dinner this evening.
This morning, we make a visit to Brunels SS Great Britain, where you can experience the sights, sounds and smells of life on board!
Sitting proudly on the glass sea, Brunels SS Great Britain dominates Bristols historic waterfront. Dressed in flags and ready for departure, just as the ship looked when it was launched in 1843. The ship has been painstakingly restored to recreate Victorian life at sea on the worlds first great luxury liner. Youll climb aboard and explore scenes so life-like youll feel as if youve stepped back in time
Then head below the glass sea for incredible views of the SS Great Britain in her original dry dock which dates to the 1830s.
The huge, covered space and modern technology protect the fragile iron hull, keeping the air as arid as the Arizona Desert. You can walk all the way around the ship for a truly unique experience, getting up close to the hull and the screw propeller which made the SS Great Britain one of the most innovative ships in the world.
And to discover more, youll journey into the world of Isambard Kingdom Brunel and find out about the genius behind some of the worlds most important engineering achievements, as you explore a recreation of his Dining Room, explore the main exhibition and go inside Brunels mind.
Making our way then to the Bristol Museum & Art Gallery where you can explore the collections of art, nature and history on display in this beautiful building. Find out about the last billion years of Earths history, explore the regions natural wonders and discover more about peoples lives, past and present.
If time allows, we spend a little more time in Bristol, before we head back to our hotel late afternoon, with time to relax before dinner this evening.
This morning well visit Thatchers Cider, where you will be shown how cider is made from start to finish, through over 115 years of cider making expertise. The tour introduces you to the working mill and packaging hall. At the end of the tour, youll get the chance to sample some of our Somerset Ciders, from the well-known brands to limited edition ranges.
Well then make our journey to Wells, with its historic centre, magnificent Cathedral, unique Vicars' Close, moated Bishop's Palace and wonderful independent shops. You have time here to explore before we make our journey back to the hotel, where we enjoy dinner this evening.
Today we will visit Bath, where you have time to explore this elegant city which is full of traditional heritage, contemporary culture, green spaces and a few surprises.
Built for pleasure and relaxation, beautiful Bath has been a wellbeing destination since Roman times.
Baths compact, visitor-friendly centre is overflowing with places to eat and drink, plus some of the finest independent shops in Britain.
After breakfast this morning we depart our hotel, and make our way to Gloucester, where we visit Gloucestershire Aviation Collection at Jet Age Museum.
Dedicated to the preservation of Gloucestershires rich aviation heritage, Jet Age Museum is a registered charity run exclusively by volunteers. The museum tells the story of aviation in the county from the early days of flight, through the birth of the Jet Age to the modern aerospace industry of today. With a mission to preserve the past and inspire the future by telling stories of the people, places, aircraft and companies that have made Gloucestershire a major centre of aviation and aerospace development for over 100 years.
After our visit we will then continue our journey home.
