The sheer beauty of the Lake District has inspired poets and artists for centuries, and on this holiday, you can relax and enjoy the dramatic landscapes of the Lakes.
Kendal | Lake District Tour | Keswick | Ambleside | Ulverston
We depart from your home and travel to Kendal arriving late afternoon you will have time to relax before dinner this evening.
The Lake District offers some of the most stunning scenes of natural beauty in the Northwest of England, it has magnificent rolling fell mountains, craggy rock faces and scenic lakes throughout the area. Today we have a scenic tour of the Lake District and later return to Kendal, where you can explore at your leisure, or simply enjoy some downtime at the hotel.
Today we visit Keswick, at its heart of the Market Square, there are no cars in the pedestrianised area which makes for a very pleasant shopping experience.
The main building in the centre of the Market Square is The Moot Hall, an ancient foundation home to the Lake District National Park Tourist Information Centre and an excellent starting point for planning your visit today. It was built in 1813 on the site of an earlier building. It was used in the past as a covered market, a courthouse, Town Hall, a place of worship, a museum, and a prison. Its one-handed clock strikes the hour only.
Though only a small town, Keswick has a range of shops and services far larger than might be expected. You can find lots of lovely shops both in the main Market Square and down every alley and side street.
There are also art galleries off the main square that sell photographs, paintings, pottery and jewellery by local artists and craftspeople. Plenty to explore here today.
This morning we drive to Ulverston, with independent shops, a traditional indoor market, beautiful walks, welcoming cafes & pubs and interesting things to see and do, Ulverston has much to offer. Well then return to Kendal, via Ambleside, returning with time to relax at our hotel before dinner this evening.
After breakfast we leave our hotel and make our journey home with comfort stops en route.
