Join us for an unforgettable holiday in Bristol, where history takes flight and sails. This charming city offers a captivating mix of aviation marvels and maritime treasures that will leave you in awe.
M Shed | The Matthew | Bristol | Bath | Aerospace Bristol | Weston-super-Mare
We depart from your home and travel to Bristol arriving late afternoon you will have time to relax before dinner this evening.
Today you have time to explore Bristol, dating back to the 13th century, the harbour is now a thriving centre filled with museums, exhibitions, galleries and bars, right in the heart of Bristol. Weve included a visit to the M Shed, situated on the historic Harbourside, M Shed tells the fascinating story of the city of Bristol, from prehistoric times all the way to the citys place in the 21st century. Originally a 1950s transit shed, the site has been transformed into a museum, challenging perceptions of what it means to live in the city through recollections of the people who have shaped Bristols identity. You will have access to over 150 restored and digitalised films exploring the citys industrial and engineering history, war-time experience, trading past and its role in the transatlantic slave trade. Youll also discover over 300 objects and collections exploring Bristols world of culture, from art and music to industry and technology.
You can also visit The Matthew - a stunning modern recreation of the original ship that was captained by John Cabot on his travel to Newfoundland in 1497. Hop on board and see the period-accurate reconstructions. Learn all about the ships history, as it was constructed in 1997 to commemorate the originals 500th anniversary when the replica charted the same course the first Matthew had taken to Newfoundland, and how the replica took part in the Queens 2012 Jubilee. Youll also enjoy stunning views of the city from all decks of the ship.
Please note: The Matthew ship is only available if moored at M Shed.
Youll then have time in Bristol to explore before we return to our hotel.
Today we continue our holiday with a day excursion to Bath. An elegant city full of traditional heritage, contemporary culture, green spaces and a few surprises. Built for pleasure and relaxation, beautiful Bath has been a wellbeing destination since Roman times. The waters are still a big draw today, both at the ancient Roman Baths and the thoroughly modern Thermae Bath Spa, which houses the only natural thermal hot springs in Britain you can bathe in.
Baths compact, visitor-friendly centre is overflowing with places to eat and drink, plus some of the finest independent shops in Britain.
Bath's stunning, honey-coloured Georgian architecture is straight from a Jane Austen novel; highlights include the iconic Royal Crescent and the majestic Circus.
So, enjoy your day here before we return to our hotel.
This morning we visit Aerospace Bristol, charting the incredible story of Bristol's aviation achievements. Step into an amazing history amongst the skies. Discover the earliest days of powered flight through to the innovations taking place in the world of aviation today.
The space is filled with fascinating relics, including aeroplanes, helicopters, missiles and much more, alongside interactive exhibits telling their stories. The aerospace is also home to the iconic Concorde, the world's fastest-passenger jet. Glimpse into the cockpit and walk amongst the passenger cabin, where you'll see how passengers travelled in style on this historic plane.
We then travel to the coast and visit Weston-super-Mare, breath in the sea air, as you stroll along the pier and perhaps watch the world go by in one of the many pubs, or cafés.
