Leeds Castle | Penshurst Place | Hever Castle | Chartwell | Rochester
We depart from your home and travel to Kent arriving late afternoon you will have time to relax before dinner this evening.
Today as you step through the gates of Leeds Castle, get ready for an experience to remember. Not your usual Castle, theres so much to see we spend the day here.
There are over 900 years of glamorous history, lavish parties, and strong women. Dont expect forts and military, you will experience heritage created by those who are visionary. Those who have crafted remarkable experiences, from the 9th century to the 20th century.
Leeds Castle has been designed over the centuries to entertain, to be a haven for all. Step back in time to experience the cinematic history of queens from the Middle Ages, as they share their untold stories, in their own voices.
With glorious scenery, and wonderful autumn colours you can also discover the scents, wildlife, and grounds of the 500 acres of parkland.
Today we visit two historic estates in Kent brought together by the Tudors. Learn more about the history of these two estates and their royal connections. First, a tour of Penshurst Place to discover its rich medieval and Tudor history. Find out why the Sidney family, who still own it to this day, were gifted the property in 1552 by Henry VIIIs son, Edward VI. Take time to wander the unique historic Elizabethan Gardens with records dating back to the 14th century. Then travel just a few miles west to visit Hever Castle, the childhood home of Anne Boleyn to which she returned repeatedly during her long courtship with Henry VIII. Enjoy a leisurely visit through the intimate Castle and magnificent grounds.
This morning we visit Chartwell, home of Sir Winston Churchill; filled with treasures, gifts and personal items belonging to the man who was once voted the Greatest Briton. The house remains very much as it was when the family lived there, and the studio is home to the largest single collection of Churchills paintings. The formal Rose Garden and working Kitchen Garden are well worth a stroll and the wider estate features a tree house, a bomb crater, and a Canadian camp.
Well then visit historic Rochester cherished by Charles Dickens who lived in the area. Historic buildings abound with the stunning Cathedral and magnificent castle dominating the town and the high street is packed with quaint, independent shops and a great range of cafes.
After breakfast this morning we leave our hotel and make our journey home with comfort stops en route.
