Chatsworth is the magnificent Derbyshire home of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire. It is a place of great beauty and history set amid breathtaking scenery. This special weekend break takes us to see the house dressed up for Christmas. Decorated with foliage, lights, and candles, as well as scenes to evoke the spirit of Christmas, the house is a superb Peak District gem.

DAY ONE – Chesterfield and Arrival

We depart from your home and travel through the Peak District to arrive firstly at Chesterfield. Find out how the 'Crooked Spire' got its twist. Or go bargain hunting on Chesterfield Market, it’s market Day today.  Get a taste of history at Chesterfield Museum or explore the shops and perhaps enjoy a bite to eat, before we then continue our journey onto our hotel with time to relax before dinner.

 

DAY TWO – Bakewell and Chatsworth House

This morning we make the short journey to Bakewell where we have time to look around the town and enjoy a coffee break, or perhaps with a slice of Bakewell Tart from the Original Pudding Shop.

We leave around midday for Chatsworth House, delightfully decorated for Christmas. Here we will have chance to obtain lunch before exploring the house, with an opportunity to visit the shop which will be well stocked with seasonal gifts. You may wish to end the day with a well-deserved cuppa in the café before we return to the hotel.

 

DAY THREE – Buxton and Departure

We enjoy a leisurely breakfast this morning and then depart our hotel and make our journey home, we’ll stop in Buxton where you can explore the town or Pavilion Gardens, have a bite to eat in one of the many café’s and then we’ll make our journey home.

Add a touch of luxury with a stay at Makeney Hall Hotel - a magnificent Victorian country mansion situated not far from Belper. The hotel is set in six acres of beautifully landscaped gardens with breath-taking views across the Amber Valley. Hotel features include an informal cocktail bar and oak panelled dining room with an impressive oak fireplace. All bedrooms are ensuite and decorated in a warmly traditional style. This hotel has a lift, however this is main building only and does not cover all rooms.
