We depart from your home and travel south to Torquay with comfort stops enroute. Arrive late afternoon at your hotel, leaving time to relax before dinner.
Today is your chance to explore Torquay, as we have a day at leisure; known as the Queen of the English Riviera Torquay is one of Englands best loved resorts. Explore the harbour, enjoy a stroll along the promenade or shopping retail therapy in the town centre, or you could just relax in and around the hotel and watch the world go by, the choice is yours.
This morning, after a leisurely breakfast well visit Totnes, this delightful town has lots of treasures to explore. Well then visit Buckfast Abbey. A living monastic community situated on the southern edge of Dartmoor. The Abbey is famous for its tonic wine, made from French mistelle and Devonian herbs. The whole site was rebuilt by French Benedictines, exiled from France during the Third Republic.
Today we visit Sidmouth, set on the spectacular Jurassic Coast. Sidmouth has been a popular destination for centuries and a resort that Queen Victoria enjoyed as a child. There are many royal connections, take a stroll around and enjoy the beautiful sea front. We then return to the hotel for dinner this evening.
Today we visit the forgotten corner of Cornwall, Mount Edgcumbe. This is a place of ancient barrows, mystical woodland, forts and chapels dotted along a remote coastline, above secret beaches and smugglers coves.
We explore Mount Edgcumbe House; the former home of the Earls of Mount Edgcumbe. Decorated in a classical style and home to some of the treasures collected by the family over the centuries, the house is a haven of calm for you to explore the past.
Built nearly 100 years before the Mayflower set sail in 1620, the Tudor style mansion stands at the top of an equally ancient double avenue of trees.
This afternoon we head for Plymouth this was the departure point of the Pilgrim fathers, James Cook and Charles Darwin. Explore at your own pace today, and well later return to our hotel with time to relax before dinner this evening.
Today we head into the South Hams region of Devon. First, we take a break in Kingsbridge, the capital of South Devon, with the chance to look around this pleasant town. Moving on we head for delightful Dartmouth with its many naval connections, including the Royal Naval College. We have lunchtime here and you can enjoy a lovely stroll along the busy harbour or just sit and watch the boats. Late afternoon we will return to the hotel.
After a leisurely morning, we make our way to the port of Brixham with its quaint narrow streets heading up from the waterfront, and in the harbour is a replica of the Golden Hind, Sir Frances Drakes ship. Well then have a leisurely drive back to Torquay via the Dartmoor National Park, before returning to our hotel with time to relax before dinner this evening.
