Norfolk | North Norfolk Railway | WhataHoot Distillery | Houghton Hall & Walled Gardens | Cromer | Kings Lynn
We depart from your home and travel to Norfolk arriving late afternoon. Time to relax before dinner and entertainment this evening.
This morning we head to WhataHoot Distillery. Have you ever wondered how craft spirts are made? Using locally sourced ingredients, the Whatahoot Distillery is one of the only gin companies in Norfolk who distil their own produce, making them award-winners in both innovation and more importantly, gin. Indulge in an insightful tour and tasting in a recently transformed 17th century warehouse, the rustic home of Whatahoot. Savour authentic samples and revel in signature fruits and spices, as you experience a masterclass in gin.
You will be treated to a light lunch, with a tour and taking, before we have free time in King Lynn or simply enjoy some relaxation at the hotel.
Unlike most other railways of the time, the Poppy Line was built to serve the eager tourist market, travelling via popular holiday spots, rather than to serve the community. This means today we are treated to the smart, Victorian seaside resort of Sheringham, the Georgian market town of Holt, and the pretty village and shingle beaches at Weybourne. Along the way are unrivalled views of this area of outstanding natural beauty.
Well also visit Cromer today; this charming seaside resort is waiting for you and is rich with history. Enjoy the stunning views of the North Sea from the iconic Cromer Pier. You might like to taste the Cromer crab, or visit the towns two museums, showcasing the towns heritage as a fishing and tourism hub.
This morning we visit Houghton Hall - one of the finest Palladian Houses in this country. Built in the 1720s, for Sir Robert Walpole, Britains First Prime Minister. We have a tour with the head gardener which takes in the award winning 5-acre walled garden which includes a spectacular double-sided herbaceous border, a formal rose parterre, a Mediterranean garden and much more. (Note: Due to steps, uneven paths and cobbled areas, this attraction is not recommended for wheelchair users).
Later we travel slightly further toward to coast and onto Hunstanton, breath in the sea air and take a stroll along the front or enjoy the café culture before we head back to our hotel.
After breakfast this morning we leave our hotel and make our journey home with comfort stops en route.

There can be few more imposing hotels in the east of England than the Dukes Head. Its striking powder-blue façade, a study in Georgian elegance, is as much a part of King's Lynn's Tuesday Market Place as the stalls that have traded here for generations. It's the quintessential market town hotel - a handsome hostelry with history at every turn, restored and restyled for the discerning twenty-first-century traveller. Stay here and you'll join quite a guest list. Political icons; princesses; the who's who of King's Lynn's past - the Dukes Head has played host to them all. Today, period charm meets contemporary chic, spacious rooms envelop you in comfort, and the very best local produce is served - in an acclaimed restaurant and a buzzing new bar. Hotel has a lift.
