We depart from your home and travel first to Manchester and visit the European Museum of the Year Manchester Museum. The museum is on a mission to become the most inclusive, imaginative and caring museum youll ever visit. As part of the University of Manchester, research and learning is in their DNA, but now they are aiming to build stronger emotional connections with visitors too, creating a space where everyone feels they belong. We enjoy our visit here and then have some free time in Manchester, before we make our way to West Yorkshire, arriving late afternoon.
This morning, we head into the City of Leeds. Making a stop at the Royal Armouries home to a large collection of military equipment and tells the story of advancements through the ages.
The rest of the day will then be free to explore this city at your own leisure. Perhaps go shopping in the Trinity shopping centre, visit Leeds Art Gallery, and grab lunch in one of the city's many restaurants and bars.
After a leisurely breakfast, we journey to the historic walled city of York where we begin our day with a visit to The Chocolate Story. We enjoy a guided tour of the interactive museum that showcases the heritage of chocolate making in York, including Rowntree's factory which opened in 1890. The rest of the day is free to explore the city at leisure. Perhaps browse the city's shops or visit The National Railway Museum. No visit to York is complete without seeing the magnificent Minster, the surrounding narrow streets, and little alleyways, including the famous Shambles.
This morning, we start with a drive to Chesterfield - home to the famous Crooked Spire of St Marys Church. How did it happen? Later we visit Renishaw Hall home to the Sitwell family since it was built by Sir George Sitwell in 1625. We enjoy a guided tour of the hall to learn about the spectacular collection of art and historical artifacts put together by generations of the Sitwell family.
After breakfast this morning we depart our hotel, and make our journey home, stopping in Buxton in the Peak District before continuing our journey over the Cat & Fiddle into Macclesfield and home.
