York City, famous the world over, the city of York holds 1900 years worth of history in its ancient walls. The Romans built the city in 71 AD, and the Vikings captured it in 866 AD.
York Minster remains the citys icon and is the largest medieval Gothic Cathedral north of the Alps - the architecture is amazing, and it is a visual feast. Explore the history beneath your feet in this fascinating city with the Jorvik Viking Centre, recounting the citys past into ancient history.
Today York with its amazing array of independent boutiques, world famous attractions and galleries and a great range of cafés and bistros. York Castle Museum is well worth a visit, as is the National Railway Museum and Yorks Cholate Story, where you can unwrap the history of chocolate.
