Along the upper reaches of the River Severn and the borders between England and Wales, the countryside of Shropshire shelters some of the most beautiful landscapes and unspoilt towns that you can imagine.
Bridgenorth | Telford | Ludlow | Shrewsbury | River Severn Cruise | Severn Valley Railway | Beautiful Georgian Bewdley | Blists Hills Victorian Town | Stokesay Castle | Kidderminster | Ironbridge Gorge
We depart from your home and travel to Shropshire arriving late afternoon you will have time to relax before dinner this evening.
Today we take a ride south to Stokesay Castle. Stokesay is the best fortified manor house in Britain. It is a survivor of 700 years of border and civil wars and its buildings are complete and breath-taking. Leaving here we head for historic Ludlow, a medieval town with an imposing castle at the top of the town square. The town has much to offer.
This morning it is Shrewsbury that catches our attention - packed with timber framed black and white buildings amongst narrow alleyways surrounded by the River Severn. Here we enjoy a cruise on the River Severn and we have chance to explore the town and obtain lunch.
Our afternoon visit takes us to the impressive Ironbridge Gorge where the worlds first iron bridge forms the centre of this World Heritage Site. Here we go back in time at Blists Hills Victorian Town. An open-air museum recreating life in a Victorian town. With Victorian characters in costume going about their daily lives.
This morning we head south to Bridgnorth. Here we join the famous Severn Valley Railway for a delightful ride along the beautiful Severn Valley, passing through lovingly restored stations on the way to Kidderminster. Enjoy some free time to explore this large market town, once a key location to make speeches with a young Winston Churchill, Prime Minister Stanley Baldwin, explorer Earnest Shackleton and womens rights campaigner Emmeline Pankhurst all having spoken at the famous town hall. After time spent here we have a short ride to the lovely Georgian Severnside town of Bewdley for free time to have a look around before the journey back to our hotel.
After breakfast this morning we leave our hotel and make our journey home with comfort stops en route.
