Tues 21 January 2025: A Day Excursion to Potty About the Potteries - Middleport Pottery with Jones Holidays
Book Now
Enjoy a day in Staffordshire with so much to see and enjoy on this fascinating trail of Middleport Potterys Heritage which includes offices, steam engine, Grade II listed bottle kiln, bath house, Europes largest ceramic design archive and How we lived at Harper Street. Situated next to the Trent & Mersey Canal, built by Burgess & Leigh in the late nineteenth century. This Grade II listed pottery is the UKs last working Victorian potbank in continuous production, and after 130 years Middleport Pottery remains home to world famous Burleigh Pottery that is all made here.
Learn about the people and events which have shaped the Pottery. Step back in time as you explore the mould store, housing Europes largest collection of ceramic moulds, and take an inside look at the Potterys huge bottle kiln, one of the few remaining in Stoke and an iconic reminder of the citys great industrial heritage. Then cross the road over to Harper Street to visit the 1950s Lodge Keepers house How we lived at Harper Street.
A friendly team of volunteers are on hand to answer any questions and bring history back to life for you.
*Please Note: there are some cobbled walkways, uneven flooring and narrow access into the Bottle Oven. No wheelchair access into the Bath House.
Enjoy a drink at the Canal Side Tea Room, then we are booked into Burgess Room for our Buffet Lunch, consisting of a selection of freshly made sandwiches on white and brown bread which will include Mature Cheddar with chunky chutney, Caesar Chicken and Bacon, Tuna Mayonnaise, and plain Ham. Hand cut Chips, served with tea and coffee.
*Please Note: any special dietary requirements to be advised on booking.
