Looe | Charlestown | Polperro | Liskeard | Looe Valley Railway | Fowey
We depart from your home with our door-to-door pick-up service and travel south to the seaside town of Looe and the Portbyhan Hotel which is situated in an unrivalled position right in the heart of Looe, you can relish the panoramic views of the vibrant harbour with only a short stroll into Looe town centre.
Today you have the day at leisure in Looe. Acting undercover as the fictional Shipton Abbott in the BBC mystery drama, Beyond Paradise. The show brings this idyllic setting to life, concealing secrets that unravel against the backdrop of this quintessential English town. Don't be fooled - the producers will have you thinking this is in neighbouring Devon, but where paradise is mentioned, it can only be Cornwall.
Away from the secrets and mysteries of Shipton Abbott, Looe is much more relaxed! Explore the picturesque harbour, where colourful fishing boats bob on the water. Wander through the charming streets, discovering eclectic independent shops and traditional Cornish pubs, or enjoy fresh seafood at waterfront restaurants.
Why not immerse yourself in the history of the smugglers of the Cornish Coast at the Old Guildhall Museum & Gaol (admission not included) or jump into the screen and follow the footsteps of Humphrey and Martha as you discover this perfect seaside resort.
Today we make our way along the Cornish coast to Charlestown an amazingly pristine, unspoiled example of a late Georgian working port.
Well then head to Liskeard; there is a free museum here that is well worth popping into for a look around. With lots of information on the local area with a particular focus on mining and geology. There is also a fascinating collection of toys through the ages.
We then join our train for our train journey on the Looe Valley Line where we travel back to Looe.
The journey to Looe is full of beautiful views out of the train window. Heavily wooded valleys teeming with wildlife open to glorious estuary views as the river heads towards the sea. Bird watchers will love this line as, especially at low tide, the river is full of wading birds such as Little Egrets, Grey herons, Oystercatchers and Curlews.
Today well travel the short distance to Polperro, it is an enchanting place on the south coast of Cornwall. Wander through narrow lanes of small cottages that once belonged to fishermen and the occasional smuggler. This is a great place to visit at any time of the year; the changing seasons bring different aspects to the village and the sea which have been enjoyed by and inspired some famous artists, writers and photographers over the past two centuries.
Well then make our way to Fowey, (pronounced Foy) it is an historic town dating back to the 14th century that rests on the west side of the Fowey estuary. As well as being a picturesque town, with winding lanes and ancient alleyways lined with medieval and Georgian buildings it is also surrounded by a beautiful coastline.
Well then return to Looe where we have time to relax before dinner this evening.
After breakfast, this morning well make our way home with comfort stops en route.
