Looe | Looe Beyond Paradise Guided Walking Tour | Port Eliot House & Gardens | Fowey | Mevagissey
We depart from your home and travel south to south-east Cornwall. There will be a cream tea to greet you on arrival with tea or coffee to enjoy whilst your luggage is taken to your room.
*Please note: if we experience any hold-ups on our journey which makes us a late arrival at the hotel, then unfortunately we will be too late to have our planned cream tea.
This morning we have included a captivating tour of Looe to explore Beyond Paradise locations, immersing yourself in the stunning landscapes that served as a backdrop to the acclaimed series.
This 1.5-hour walking tour will be guided by a friendly and knowledgeable guide, who will walk you through the picturesque town, unveiling the filming locations of the popular series.
The tour includes a stop outside the Guildhall, doubling as the police station, and showcases local shops and restaurants featured in the series, such as The Sail Loft restaurant. Passing by the working fish market, a familiar backdrop in the show, adds an authentic touch to the experience.
Strolling along the East Looe River, a key location in the first series, you'll witness the familiar sights of seagulls and fishing boats, capturing the essence of Beyond Paradise. The tour maintains a leisurely pace, allowing you to savour the beauty and allure of this Cornish town.
A highlight awaits you at East Looe Beach, a popular sandy retreat in Southern Cornwall. Breathe in the salty sea air and appreciate why the cast and crew chose this idyllic Southwest England location for filming.
Throughout the tour, you guide will regale you with anecdotes from the making of Beyond Paradise and share intriguing facts about the area's rich history, culture, and natural wonders.
After our walking tour, youll have the rest of the day at leisure to enjoy refreshments or simply relax in the hotel.
After a leisurely morning, we make our way to Port Eliot House & Gardens.
Once home to Augustinian monks and having survived confiscation by Charles I, Port Eliot is a unique treasure trove with the rare distinction of being a Grade-1 listed house with Grade-1 listed gardens.
We have included a guided tour of The House at Port Eliot which has been lived in for over 1000 years and believed to be the oldest continually inhabited dwelling in the UK and full of the accumulated treasures of such a long history. As such it is a curious, individual and virtually unique location full of wonder and elegant obscurities.
Youll gain an exciting insight into the wonders and workings of the upstairs and downstairs of a stately home throughout the decades and centuries. See the nationally important Sir Joshua Reynolds artworks, historical collections and many more beautiful artefacts from the Earl of St Germans collection.
Youll also have access to its 60-acre Repton landscaped gardens. These encompass a vast rhododendron garden, maze, bowling green, orangery, arboretum and magnificent view of the estuary not to mention the majestic St Germans viaduct stretching over it.
After our visit well then return to Looe, where you can have time to relax before dinner this evening.
This morning we head to the typically picture-postcard village of Mevagissey with its perfect pubs, cafes, galleries, and shops clustering around the harbour walls and lining the pretty streets.
Well then continue to Fowey, a picturesque town that has much to offer and is designated an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Its natural harbour is the perfect haven for yachtsmen while still busy as a working port exporting Cornwalls china clay.
The home of Daphne du Maurier can be seen, and the town also boasts an excellent selection of quality shops, art galleries, cafes, and restaurants for those looking for a Cornish cream tea or tasty fish & chips.
After breakfast we depart our hotel and make our journey home with comfort stops enroute.
