DAY ONE – Bronte Parsonage Museum, Haworth and Arrival

We depart from your home and travel first to Haworth, the historic hilltop village forever linked with the Brontë family. We have included a visit to the Bronte Parsonage Museum - the family home where Jane Eyre, Wuthering Heights and The Tenant of Wildfell Hall were written. With free time in Haworth after our visit, you can explore at leisure and take some refreshments before continuing to our hotel in Kendal, with time to relax before dinner this evening.

DAY TWO – Hill Top Farm, Hawkshead Village & Beatrix Potter’s World

Today we journey into the Lake District to Hill Top Farm, Beatrix Potter's farmhouse retreat: the inspiration for her little books. Hill Top Farm, Beatrix’s 17th-century farmhouse in Near Sawrey is preserved exactly as she left it, you’ll recognise scenes that appear in Peter Rabbit and her other tales.

We’ll then continue to Hawkshead village with its charming, cobbled streets and literary connections before arriving at Windermere, and a visit to the world of Beatrix Potter’s World in Bowness.

DAY THREE – Wordsworth’s Dove Cottage, Museum & Gallery and Grasmere

Today we step into another century as you experience William Wordsworth’s life at Dove Cottage. Wordsworth and his family lived in this humble Lake District cottage from 1799 to 1808. First, we enjoy visit to Dove Cottage that has been brought back to life, and the sights, sounds and smells evoke memories of over 200 years ago. Little moments taken from the Wordsworth’s poems, journals and letters have been recreated, telling the story of their life here. In this time of ‘plain living and high thinking’, the everyday mixed with the extraordinary. It was whilst living here, amongst the hustle and bustle of daily life, that Wordsworth wrote many of his greatest poems and his sister Dorothy kept her fascinating Grasmere journal.

You will then have some free time in Grasmere, it remains one of Cumbria’s most popular villages, largely due to its picturesque location and ties with William Wordsworth.

DAY FOUR – Keswick – in the footsteps of the poets

Today we will visit Keswick, sitting between Derwentwater and the dramatic Skiddaw mountain range. It’s one of the Lake District’s most atmospheric market towns — lively, walkable, and surrounded by the kind of scenery that inspired the Romantic poets. Wordsworth would have visited here frequently, and there are close connections with Coleridge and Southey.

DAY FIVE – Holmfirth and Departure

After breakfast this morning we depart our hotel, and make a stop in Holmfirth, though not classic literary, there are strong story telling links with ‘Last of the Summer Wine’, including Sid’s Café… but don’t miss the incredible second hand book shop, just around the corner. We’ll then, continuing our journey home.
