Queen Victoria fell in love with the Isle of Wight, and after her first visit to Osborne House pronounced: 'It is impossible to find a prettier spot.' This Victorian Christmas break will be a delightful immersion into that world, and a wonderful way to start off the festivities.

DAY ONE – Arrival

We depart from your home and travel south to Portsmouth for our ferry crossing to the Isle of Wight; after disembarking we continue to our hotel. We arrive at our hotel and step back in time to be welcomed into the Yuletide spirit by costumed characters.

 

Enjoy tea and mince pies served in the drawing room on arrival. Immerse yourself in the splendour of the original 1870’s features of the “house” traditionally decorated with garlands, cinnamon bunches, and holly. A drinks reception will welcome you before you take your seats for a candle lit delicious three course meal in the Cameron restaurant, named after Julia Cameron, the famous Victoria photographer. After dinner relax with coffee and mints.

 

DAY TWO – Cowes and Godshill

This morning we travel to Cowes, best known as the world’s premier yachting centre and the island’s main port with a natural harbour. On our return to our hotel we will visit Godshill, one of the most photographed and prettiest villages on the Island, there are plenty of cafes, pubs, tearooms, and beautiful sights to keep you entertained, maybe visit the model village during our stop as well.

Tea and cakes will await your arrival back at Bourne Hall. a “mulled wine reception” with carols will precede a gala Christmas buffet.

Take part in the Victorian Christmas quiz after dinner with prizes and relax with coffee and mints and enjoy the log fire in the drawing room.

 

DAY THREE – Osborne House

After a hearty country breakfast prepare to enjoy a guided Christmas tour of Osborne House.

On return to the hotel following our days’ activities on the island, look forward to enjoying an Isle of Wight beer and wine tasting reception prior to your three-course festive dinner with all the trimmings. Following your meal there will be music and dancing until late. Formal dress is optional.

 

DAY FOUR – Shanklin

Today we have a day to relax in Shanklin, you can maybe take a walk through the Shanklin Chine, or enjoy a cream tea in one of the cafes and enjoy the old Village quirky shops.

A three-course dinner will be served in the Cameron restaurant whilst marvelling at the trickery of a table magician. After dinner relax with coffee and mints and await the arrival, perhaps, of a surprise guest!

 

DAY FIVE – Departure

After breakfast, this morning we leave our hotel and make our way to our ferry crossing and home with comfort stops en route.

Bourne Hall, an elegant, family run, Country House Hotel and restaurant, set in mature grounds in Shanklin, Isle of Wight. Originally built in the late 1860’s, said to be for one of Queen Victoria’s ladies in waiting, the “house” still retains its sense of history whilst providing comfortable accommodation enhanced by its original Victorian features. Uniquely located on an elevated position at the foot of Luccombe Downs, benefits both countryside and coastal Vistas. The Hotel enjoys exquisite views, by day and night, across Sandown and Shanklin Bay, and onwards to Culver Downs Situated a few minutes’ walk south of Shanklin “old village”. All rooms are fully en-suite, have flat screen TVs with free-view, some with an internal DVD player. Each enjoy Wi-Fi access, courtesy toiletries, tea and coffee making facilities and use of the leisure facilities, all of which are complimentary. Hotel does not have a lift.
