DAY TWO – Poolewe and Inverewe Garden & Estate

A short ride from our hotel is Poolewe, time here before we continue our journey for our afternoon visit to Inverewe Garden and Estate.

Inverewe Garden is like no other. Amazing species that simply shouldn’t grow here are thriving, aided by the effects of the Gulf Stream. From pre-historic trees such as our Wollemi pines to rhododendrons from China, Nepal and India, Himalayan poppies and Tasmanian eucalyptus, there is something to discover and enjoy in every corner. The estate has many designations recognising its importance as a species-rich habitat. The wildlife hide provides the perfect vantage point over Loch Ewe, where coastal birds, seals and otters can be seen.

At its heart is Inverewe House, a museum with a twist, and its adjacent Sawyer Gallery, which hosts exhibitions that reflect the characteristics of the garden and surrounding environment.

DAY THREE – Plockton, Eilean Donan Castle and The Isle of Skye

This morning we travel south to Plockton, where we spend a little time before we continue our day and head for the picture postcard Eilean Donan Castle, one of the most iconic images of Scotland, Eilean Donan is recognised all around the world. Situated on an island at the point where three great sea lochs meet, and surrounded by some majestic scenery, it is little wonder that the castle is now one of the most visited and important attractions in the Scottish Highlands - embark on a journey that takes you through time and history. After exploring this stunning castle, we enjoy a scenic drive on the Isle of Skye – this couldn’t be missed could it!

DAY FOUR – Gairloch Museum, Gairloch and Gairloch Glass Bottomed Boat

Today we have included a 90-minute trip around Loch Gairloch where you can discover an amazing world of wildlife above, on and below the water!

Also, today we have arranged a visit for you to visit Gairloch Museum, located in a converted nuclear bunker with galleries showcasing the history, culture and natural heritage of this beautiful area of the Northwest Highlands. Displays include the original lens from Rubh Re lighthouse, a replica croft house showing how people used to live and an interactive gallery about our magnificent natural world, midges, and all!

Free time to look around Gairloch then before returning the short distance to the hotel.

Please note: due to the size restrictions on the glass bottom boat the group will be split and we will alternative the attractions.

DAY FIVE – Russian Convoys Museum, Carrieshalloch Gorge and Ullapool

Today we travel along the North Coast 500 firstly visiting the Russian Arctic Convoy Exhibition, a great museum working hard to keep the memory of those who took part in the Artic Convoys during WWII alive. Step inside the museum and discover one of the most daring allied operations of WWII and learn about the Arctic Convoys right where they took place.

We’ll then make a short stop at the Carrieshalloch Gorge just outside Ullapool, a fantastic example of a deep gorge created by glacial meltwater, before continuing to the charming, picturesque fishing town of Ullapool, nestled on the shore of Loch Broom, in the Northern Highlands.

We then spend a little time in Ullapool, why not enjoy some fish and chips, the fish is landed fresh every day. Don’t forget the Ullapool Museum, just as interesting outside as inside, as Ullapool’s history is kept in a Category A listed building. Get your camera ready!
