Cambridge University Botanic Garden | Cambridge | Ely Experience
We depart from your home and travel to Cambridge with comfort stops en route, arriving late afternoon at the hotel with time to relax before dinner this evening.
We begin today with a short drive to the Cambridge University Botanic Garden, With the onset of winter this seasonal planting comes into its own, bringing colourful tints to brighten the gloomiest day. This magnificent garden occupies a 40-acre site less than a mile from the city centre and is a showcase for over 8000 plant species from all around the world, including nine national collections, all immaculately displayed amongst a superb arboretum. Different gardens include the Winter Garden, the Rock Garden with a vantage point over the lake, the Dry Garden and Scented Garden. A visit to the magnificently restored Glasshouse is not to be missed. This afternoon we have time to explore the city centre before returning to our hotel.
Today we visit Ely, rising above the Cambridgeshire fens, Ely has something for everyone. From the monastic buildings of the city past, the vibrant food scene and the scenic majesty of the Riverside, Ely packs a great deal into a pocket city. With Ely Cathedral, independent shops around the city centre, places to relax and replenish both body and mind, there has never been a better time to enjoy this quintessentially English jewel in the heart of East Cambridgeshire.
We include a guided tour (a comfortable ninety-minute walking tour), of Ely, including Oliver Cromwells house, Ely Cathedral, The Stained-Glass Museum and Ely Museum the Ely Experience will show you all there is to see of these key heritage attractions.
After a leisurely breakfast we depart our hotel and begin our homeward journey with comfort stops en route.
