If you're looking for a breathtaking destination to explore, look no further than the Lake District. This National Park is known for its stunning landscape of lakes, mountains, and valleys. But we are also exploring the Brontes, and the history and legends of the Lakes, that have shaped our world today.
Kendal | Ambleside | Keswick | Ullswater | Glenridding | Haworth | Bronte Parsonage Museum | Quaker Tapestry Museum | Abbot Hall
We depart from your home and travel to the Lake District, arriving at our hotel in Kendal with time to relax before dinner this evening.
Today we begin with a drive to Ambleside. We take a break here and have time to look around. From here we head north past Dunmail Raise and Lake Thirlmere to Keswick. This is the thriving main town of the northern lakes, situated within walking distance of Derwentwater. We have our lunch break here. This afternoon we head for beautiful Lake Ullswater and Glenridding for a short stop. Continuing our way through Patterdale, we ascend the rugged Kirkstone Pass, with the lonely inn at the summit, and drop down to Lake Windermere and back to our hotel.
We start the day with a scenic drive through Cumbria, past the market town of Kirkby Lonsdale and into the Yorkshire Dale. We see as we pass through the village of Cowan Bridge the once Clergy Daughter's School attended by four Brontë sisters, Maria, Elizabeth, Charlotte and Emily. The school was the inspiration for "Lowood" in Charlotte's novel, Jane Eyre. From here, our journey takes us across the Pennine Moors, where the sisters would wander when wanting to escape from nearby Keighley, and on into Haworth.
We have included a visit to the Bronte Parsonage Museum in Haworth, with free time in Haworth after our visit where you can explore at leisure and take some refreshments before we then journey back through the beautiful scenery to our hotel.
Today we stay local and first visit the Quaker Tapestry Museum, discover the Quakers origins and their impact on society. From the scientific and industrial revolutions to social reform, peace and the abolition of slavery. Explore how Quakers beliefs have shaped our world today.
We also have included entrance to Abbot Hall, an exceptional collection of historic and contemporary art. It is located in a Grade I listed Georgian building in Kendal and is one of Britains leading small art galleries.
The rest of the day is yours, enjoy Kendal, or relax at the hotel, and watch the world, and the river go by.
After breakfast this morning we depart our hotel, and make our journey home, with comfort stops en route.
