Stockport Hat Museum is the UKs only museum dedicated to the hatting industry, hats and headwear. Discover the grizzly history of the fur trade, why Stockport was the perfect place to make hats and see the Victorian hatting machines in motion for the first time since 2016. Our guide will bring to life how the mill worked and what a working life would have been like for the workers.
You can learn how hats can transform, protect and say something about who you are. They can be used to blend in or stand out in a crowd. Designs can be inspired by nature, architecture, social issues and more. Made using a vast array of materials, hats are always great a conversation starter. This is a fascinating award-winning tour that we know you will thoroughly enjoy.
The Gallery of Hats explore how hats can transform, protect and say something about who you are.
The Hat Works ground floor introduces the fur felt hat-making, which began to concentrate in the Stockport area from the 17th century.
Hat Block making - One of the most atmospheric parts of the museum is the recreation of a hat block makers workshop and office.
Once pick-ups are complete, we will make our way to the Museum, making a comfort stop en route, arriving at approximately 11am.
