HOLIDAY HIGHLIGHTS

Thornbridge Hall   |   Buxton Character Tour    |   Peak District Coach Guided Tour   |    Matlock   |   Buxton   |   Bakewell

DAY ONE – Bakewell and Arrival

We depart from your home and join the coach to journey to Bakewell en route to our hotel. Enjoy a little while here looking around the town and perhaps enjoy a break for lunch and visit the many interesting places around the town.

DAY TWO – Thornbridge Hall and Matlock

After a leisurely breakfast we make our way to Thornbridge Hall for a 90-minute journey through Thornbridge Hall, a famously quirky Grade II-listed Jacobean estate set amidst 100 acres of scenic parkland in the Peak District.

Marvel at the elaborate interiors, each detail telling the story of its eccentric past and hear how it was rescued from dereliction from a family member of a present-day owner.

Stroll the enchanting gardens commissioned by George Maples, who envisioned “1,000 shades of green” from his window—now realized in 12 acres of themed rooms, featuring the 100-foot Herbaceous Border, Koi Lake, and terraced lawns, all adorned with statues, grottos, and temples.

On our return we’ll stop at Matlock, before continuing our journey back to our hotel.

DAY THREE – Buxton Character Tour

Today after breakfast we relive historical moments through the eyes of colourful characters in Buxton, the spa town famous since the 16th century for its ‘miracle’ natural mineral springs favoured by Queen Elizabeth I and Mary Queen of Scots as well as its Georgian and Victorian architecture.

Conclude at the Buxton Visitor Centre and spend some time in the elegant Victorian Pump Room, dedicated to Arnemetia the Goddess of the Grove, and take in the thermal mineral waters, rising from 5,000 feet below ground at a constant 27.5 degrees and attracting visitors for more than 10,000 years. After we make our way back to the hotel in time for dinner this evening.

There is free time within the town to explore a little more before we return to our hotel.

DAY FOUR – Peak District Coach Guided Tour

Uncover the sweeping landscapes of the Peak District, Britain’s original National Park, on a guided coach tour through breathtaking peaks and chocolate-box villages, with plenty of photo opportunities along the way.

Journey through the historic Derwent Valley, passing Masson Mills, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, before arriving in Bakewell for a morning coffee stop.

Continue through the Dark Peak, stopping for lunch in one of the area’s many picturesque villages, such as Ashford in the Water, Monsal Head, Grindleford or Longshaw Estate, and visiting some of these charming locations along the way.

Then we continue our scenic drive through Ashbourne back to Derby with plenty of time to relax before dinner this evening.
