Shibden Hall dates back to 1420 and take you on a fascinating journey through the lives of the people who lived and worked there, including the noted diarist Anne Lister (1791 - 1840).

 

Shibden Hall’s architecture is a mix of styles reflecting its interesting and varied history. The adjacent 17th century aisled barn and workshops house a carriage collection and displays relating to different crafts, including a blacksmiths, coopers, wheelwrights, and saddlers.

 

The Hall is surrounded by the beautifully restored gardens and estate that forms Shibden Park. There are a range of features and attractions, including a cafe and visitor facilities, miniature railway, boating lake, walking trails, play area, orienteering course and woodland in which to roam.

 

Shibden Hall is the focus of the BBC drama series written by Sally Wainwright, 'Gentleman Jack' exploring the life of Anne Lister (1791 - 1840) and those who lived in the Hall and Estate.

 

We also visit Bankfield Museum (just one mile from Shibden Hall) a museum since 1887, Bankfield tells the story of Halifax and Calderdale, using its rich and diverse collections.  Set in the attractive surrounds of Akroyd Park.  The displays cover local history, costume, art, toys, military history, jewellery and textiles from around the world.

YOUR ITINERARY

We depart from your selected pick-up point and travel north to Halifax, where enjoy time at Shibden Hall, the location for TV’s “Gentleman Jack”.  From here we take the short journey to Bankfield Museum which tells the story of Halifax and Calderdale.

 

We depart here around 4.00pm to make our journey home.

 

 

Please Note restrictions for Shibden Hall:  There is no lift to the upper floor.  The historic barn is accessible to a degree, but please be aware there are uneven cobbles on the floor.  The folk Museum is not wheelchair accessible.  There is an uphill walk from where the coach drops you off, up to the Hall or alternatively you can use the Landtrain.
