Shake off the winter blues and join us for a great day out visiting the very popular Samlesbury Hall in Lancashire. Samlesbury Hall is a 700 year old half-timbered medieval stately home dating back to 1325. With seven centuries of history to explore, Samlesbury Hall encompasses a historic mansion including three floors of rooms; Victorian Kitchen, The Great Hall, The Ghost Room and The Witch’s Garret.The grounds include a Rosarium and the Fountain Courtyard which are set among lush green lawns, flower beds and ancient trees. 

We’ll then visit the famous Bents Garden & Home Centre in Glazebury, Warrington.

YOUR ITINERARY

We depart from your selected pick-up point and travel to Samlesbury Hall arriving approx. 11:00hrs. As you stroll through this beautiful historic stately home of the fabulous half-timbered black & white medieval house built in 1325 as a family home your guide will make you aware to look out for the resident witch, who will enthral you with the true history of the Samlesbury witches, in her own eccentric manner. Be swatted by her mummified rat; watch out gentlemen, she has a fabulous rotten toothed smile waiting just for you!

 

Or join the Lady of the House or Henry VIII in their rich historical garments and hear of the many lives and families that Samlesbury Hall has seen come and go over the centuries. From be-headings to bewitchings, their fascinating and often gruesome tales come to life in front of your very eyes.

There are also the charming grounds of Samlesbury Hall to enjoy with a beautiful courtyard, the quatrefoil rose garden and our brand-new Bee & Heritage centre (complete with live bees!)

 

You can enjoy a drink and/or snack in The Heritage Café where they serve light snacks, teas/coffees, and cakes.  Or, alternatively, there is Dottie’s Wafflery & Coffee Shop, serving decadent desserts to brilliant banoffee waffles, made on their very own waffle iron, sizzling, making only the freshest waffles.

 

After our visit we then travel to Bents Garden and Home Centre, they have been announced as the winner of the GCA’s Destination Garden Centre of the Year 2023 award, a title which recognises Bents as being the best large garden centre in the UK. So much to see with Home & Gifts, Furniture & Outdoor Living, Clothing, Cookware, Pets & Wildlife, etc., also 6 café/dining areas to choose from.  Opened in 1937 this family run garden centre has evolved into a unique lifestyle destination.  We enjoy a couple of hours before departing for home at 16:00hrs.
