HOLIDAY HIGHLIGHTS

RHS Wisley   |   Wisley Guided Tour   |   Petworth   |   Chichester   |   Mid Hants Railway – Watercress Line   |   Jane Austen’s House Museum

DAY ONE – Arrival

We depart from your home and travel to Hampshire arriving late afternoon you will have time to relax before dinner this evening.

DAY TWO – RHS Wisley Gardens including Guided Tour

This morning we head for RHS Wisley Gardens, one of the world’s great gardens, packed with horticultural inspiration. A wonderful garden and a perfect time of year, with a wellbeing garden, a world food garden, wildlife garden and exotic gardens, as well as glasshouses, and wonderful water gardens, there’s much to see.  We’ve included a garden guided tour for you today, so you’ll be in for a treat.

DAY THREE – Petworth and Chichester

Today we visit Chichester, and on our way this morning we’ll call into the beautiful market town of Petworth, with its cobbled streets, plenty of independent shops and impressive number of antique stores, giving it a truly historic feel.

We’ll then continue to Chichester, where you can explore at your leisure. Chichester is a Roman Cathedral City and the only city in West Sussex. Its historical evidence of Roman settlement can be found all over the city, including some Roman baths, a city wall (which was replaced by a Georgian wall), an amphitheatre which is now a park and the old Roman road State Street linking Chichester with London.

DAY FOUR – Mid Hants Railway and Jane Austen’s House Museum

This morning we enjoy a wonder journey on the Mid Hants Railway Watercress Line. In years gone by, the Watercress Line took people on holiday, carried people to war, transported evacuees and moved all the essential goods of the area.

Today at the railway you can experience the thrill of a trip on a steam train through the spectacular Hampshire countryside.

We’ll then visit Jane Austen’s House Museum; the Hampshire cottage where Jane Austen lived. Here her genius flourished, and she wrote, revised and had published all six of her globally beloved novels: Sense and Sensibility, Pride and Prejudice, Mansfield Park, Emma, Northanger Abbey and Persuasion.

Today, Jane Austen’s House is a cherished museum with an unparalleled collection of Austen treasures, including items of furniture, paintings, and household objects. Visitors can discover Jane’s personal letters and first editions of her novels, items of jewellery that she cherished, portraits of her friends and family, and the tiny writing table at which she wrote.
