Lakeland Model Village | Lakeside & Haverthwaite Steam Railway | Lakes Aquarium | Lake Windermere Cruise | Kendal | Ambleside | Lowther Castle & Gardens
We depart from your home and travel to The Lake District arriving late afternoon you will have time to relax before dinner this evening.
We make the short journey today to Windermere where we enjoy a Lakeside adventure including a single trip on the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Steam Railway, a visit to the Lakes Aquarium and a lake cruise on Windermere.
This morning after a leisurely breakfast we make our way to Kendal, a perfect blend of classy retail and quirky local surprises, in beautiful surroundings. Kendals pedestrian-friendly streets and intriguing yards and ginnels make for a relaxing experience, with a mix of contemporary high street brands and characterful, local independent retailers.
Well then visit Ambleside, surrounded by majestic Lakeland fells, Amblesides roots are in the medieval woollen trade, but the town you see today is primarily Victorian, built of traditional grey slate.
Well then return to our hotel, with time to relax before dinner this evening. Why not take the opportunity today to visit the Lakeside Model Village in the grounds of the hotel.
Today we head north to Penrith and Lowther Castle & Gardens. Built at the turn of the 19th century on the site of two previous houses, the castle was a grand affair boasting a room for every day of the year. Its gardens were the envy of the north. But in 1957 the castle was demolished. Just the façade and outer walls remained standing and for over half a century, the place was empty home only to chickens, pigs and the odd bat. The gardens were lost to the wilderness. Today Lowther Castle is one of the most intriguing places to visit with dramatic ruins and gardens within gardens.
After breakfast this morning we leave our hotel and make our journey home with comfort stops en route.
