A weekend festive tour to the northeast with excursions to Auckland Castle where this proud home of the Bishops of Durham that has been beautifully decorated for the festive season. We also have a visit to the famous open-air museum Beamish where we step back in time to experience Christmas from days gone by.

DAY ONE – Arrival

We depart from your home and travel to Durham arriving late afternoon you will have time to relax before dinner this evening.

 

DAY TWO – Auckland Castle

After a leisurely breakfast, we make the journey to Auckland Castle. This proud home of the Bishops of Durham stands as one of the best-preserved Bishops’ Palaces in Europe. Over the last decade, the site has undertaken major renovation work to bring the castle back to its former splendour. Enjoy time at leisure to explore the festively decorated castle with staterooms designed to tell the history and story of the bishops that lived here.  Included in our visit is entry to the Faith Museum. Newly opened in 2024, the museum looks to contemplate the ideas, implications, and impact of faith in Britain.

 

DAY THREE – Beamish Living Museum

What better way to count down to Christmas than by visiting the winter wonderland at Beamish, the Living Museum of the North?  Today we experience Christmas from days gone by. Stroll around Town Street, Pit Village, Home Farm and Pockerley Old Hall. Lots of opportunity to obtain a drink and a bite to eat before returning to our hotel in plenty of time for dinner.

 

DAY FOUR – Departure

After breakfast we leave our hotel and make our journey home with comfort stops en route.
