We depart from your home and travel to Kings Lynn, in Norfolk with comfort stops en route. You will enjoy tea and coffee on arrival, and youll then have time to relax before dinner this evening.
This morning you will be able to relax and rejuvenate at the World-renowned, award winning, Norfolk Lavender Farm, set in 100 acres of fragrant meadows on the Sandringham estate. Starting with just 6 acres and 13,000 plants, you can now see 100 varieties on display from the holder of the National Collection of Lavenders. Hear about a vibrant heritage as you learn about the wide and varied use of the lavender oil distilled onsite, from fragrance and aromatherapy scenting the Roman baths to soldiers first-aid kits for healing and soothing, and cooking ingredients to be enjoyed in treats including the famous Lavender Cake and Scones available in the Lavender Lounge tearoom!
We then visit Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla's much-loved country retreat Sandringham, we explore opulent, elaborate state rooms devoted to the sporting pastimes such as a gun and billiard rooms, displaying collections of Oriental and Indian arms and armour, rich with regal treasures. Set among 20,000 acres of stunning landscaped gardens, in the Norfolk coast AONB, and home to four generations of British monarchs, your tour includes free time to discover the estate, first recorded in the Domesday book, nicely complimented with a tasty afternoon tea fit for a King and Queen.
This morning we head to the north Norfolk coast and the imposing 18th-century Palladian estate Holkham Hall, a stunning setting for a VIP Tour. You will be greeted with tea/coffee and biscuits before we take our private VIP tour.
Embellished with treasures and collections gained from European Grand Tour origins, and with rich red velvet walls striking a powerful portrait against marble staircase backdrops, learn of 400 years of the influential Coke family. From prosecuting the Gunpowder plotters, to present-day 'Great Farm Projects' fitting a vision of the ultimate pioneering and sustainable rural estate, Holkham is not without a story to expose. Set in rolling parkland, with 6 acres of landscaped gardens being lovingly restored to former glory, take time to relax in the tranquillity alongside nature trails and elegant Holkham lake.
We then travel to Dereham for our railway journey. Whistle through the heart of Norfolks unspoilt countryside for 17.5 miles on one of the longest preserved new generation heritage railways, for views of rural countryside and small wayside market town stations to visit the historic, beautiful Wymondham Abbey adjacent to the river Tiffey, before returning to restored Victorian station Dereham, featuring period ticket office, tearoom, and displays of local railway artefacts. (Duration of journey 100mins.)
After breakfast, we have some free time enjoying Kings Lynn, full of history and with a vibrant town centre we are confident you will appreciate time at leisure discovering this historic town. This afternoon we take on board some sea air. With over 80 years of experience operating in Blakeney Harbour, a trip to the Blakeney Seals with Beans Boats offers a rare opportunity to get 'up close and personal' to the resident Grey seal and Common Seal colonies without causing a disturbance. There can be few more imposing hotels in the east of England than the Dukes Head. Its striking powder-blue façade, a study in Georgian elegance, is as much a part of King's Lynn's Tuesday Market Place as the stalls that have traded here for generations. It's the quintessential market town hotel - a handsome hostelry with history at every turn, restored and restyled for the discerning twenty-first-century traveller. Stay here and you'll join quite a guest list. Political icons; princesses; the who's who of King's Lynn's past - the Dukes Head has played host to them all. Today, period charm meets contemporary chic, spacious rooms envelop you in comfort, and the very best local produce is served - in an acclaimed restaurant and a buzzing new bar.
This holiday was 1st class, I enjoyed every part of it. The Dukes Head was excellent and in a very good location.
