DAY ONE – Bakewell and Arrival

We depart from your home and join the coach to journey to Bakewell en route to our hotel. It’s market day today so we enjoy a little time here and perhaps enjoy lunch in one of the many eateries.

DAY TWO –Pickford’s House and Denby Pottery Village and Guided Tour

Today we visit Pickford’s House in Derby, a must-see attraction for anyone interested in the history of architecture and interior design. The Georgian townhouse, built in 1770 by architect Joseph Pickford, is a stunning example of the elegance and grandeur of the era.

You can take a tour of the property and see a wide variety of original features and furnishings. The house is set out as it would have been when the Pickford family lived there, complete with period furniture, paintings, and decorative objects.

One of the highlights of a visit to Pickford’s House is the grand entrance hall, which is decorated with ornate plasterwork and a beautiful staircase. The drawing room is also a highlight, with its elegant furnishings and beautiful fireplace.

The bedrooms on the upper floors of the house are also worth a visit, where you can see the bedrooms and dressing rooms of the Pickford family, complete with original beds, dressing tables and wardrobes.  *Please Note: there is no lift to the upper floors.

The house has an extensive collection of ceramics, silver, and glass, as well as a variety of other decorative arts.

In addition to the interior of the house, you can also explore the garden and courtyard, which have been restored to their original 18th-century design.

A fascinating glimpse into the past!

We’ll then make a visit to Denby Pottery Village, where we enjoy a Denby Factory Tour and see just how much love and care goes into each piece of pottery. The Denby Pottery Village is located next door in the cobbled courtyard, and is home to a selection of amenities, as well as a coffee shop.  Don’t forget to visit the factory Shop, where you’ll find all the latest designs.

Please note: The Denby Pottery Tour is a walking and standing tour of the historic pottery that takes approximately one hour and which involves stairs.

DAY THREE – Peak District Tour, inc Matlock Bath and Eyam

After a leisurely breakfast we take a scenic drive through the Peak District, visiting Matlock Bath, and the charming village called Eyam.  This village has a story to tell and is best known for its association with Black Death in 1665, known as the ‘Plague Village' the museum in the town tells the story of its residents, and its history.
