DAY ONE – Arrival

We depart from your home early and travel south to Dover for your crossing to Calais.

On arrival we continue our journey to our first hotel the Mercure Hotel Saarbrücken Süd in Germany. A set three course dinner menu will be served this evening.

 

DAY TWO – Travel to Switzerland

Today we travel to Switzerland taking in the breathtaking views. Switzerland is one of the world’s prettiest countries. Its landscape of impressive mountain ranges and beautiful villages.  We make comfort stops on route and arrive at our hotel where we enjoy dinner this evening and settle in for our 2 nights stay.

 

DAY THREE – Shuttle Train Taesch-Zermatt

This morning after breakfast we make our way to Taesch where we board the shuttle train and travel through the fascinating mountains to Zermatt.

Zermatt is one of Switzerlands most popular tourist destinations, it’s the home of the Matterhorn one of the most famous mountains in the world. The village itself is car free, which means you can stroll around in tranquillity. With plenty of cafes you’ll be warm and cosy whilst you enjoy the views. You could take a stroll and check out the Kirchbrucke Bridge – the river below is called Mattervispa, St Mauritius Church would also make an interesting visit whilst you are here and dates to the 15th century with a ceiling painted to depict Noah’s Ark by Paolo Parente.

After we have soaked up all the beauty of Zermatt, we board the Shuttle and head back to Taesch and our hotel with time to relax before dinner this evening.

 

DAY FOUR – Glacier Express and Austria

This morning we pack up and depart our hotel after breakfast.

We’ll travel to Brig, the capital of the German-speaking Valais. The name is derived from the Celtic word "briga" for hill fortress. The founding of the city around 1250 was the beginning of a brilliant economic rise to become a trading metropolis, to which Kaspar von Stockalper made a significant contribution. It secured the movement of goods between France and Lombardy. Today, Brig serves as a starting point for hikes around the large Aletsch Glacier, which has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2001. The landscape here transitions from the eternal ice of the high Alps to green valley’s full of wine-growing areas.

Here we board the world-famous Glacier Express from brig to Chur.

The Glacier Express is a classic among the panorama trains through Switzerland, so you’ll have the best view of the unique mountain landscape.

Arriving in the picturesque old town of Chur with its 5000-year settlement history and sights such as the episcopal castle and the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. This historic, well-preserved district is completely car-free and can be explored comfortably on foot.

Meeting our coach we then make our way to Dornbin and our next hotel in the westernmost Austrian state of Vorarlberg.

 

DAY FIVE – Dornbirn

Today you have the day in Dornbirn, with its stunning landscapes that surround the town.

You can perhaps take a ride on the cable car to the top of the mountain which takes just 5 minutes, where art the top you are greeted by stunning views of the Austrian Countryside and across to Germany and Switzerland.

You might also like to visit the Dornbirn Municipal Museum is situated in a 200-year-old patrician house directly on the central Market Square. On three stories, a broad selection of exhibit objects and works of art reflect on important chapters of the city’s history.

 

DAY SIX – Appenzeller Cheese Guided Tour and Abbey of St. Gall

Today after breakfast we make our way to Appenzeller Cheese Dairy, where we enjoy a 1-hour tours to find out exactly how Appenzeller®  cheese is made and what the secret is? 

We then make our way to Stiftsbezirk St Gallen. The Abbey of St. Gall has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1983 and has plenty of impressive treasures just waiting to be discovered in its library, vaulted cellar and new exhibition hall.

Your ticket gives you access to all three exhibitions, including the original map of the Abbey of St. Gall from the 9th century, which is being displayed as an original for the very first time.

The map of the Abbey is the earliest preserved visualisation of a monastic compound produced in the Middle Ages. It is thought to have been drawn up sometime between 819 and 826 in the monastery of Reichenau on Lake Constance and is in the possession of the Abbey Library of St. Gall.

We than make our way back to the hotel with time to relax before dinner this evening.

 

DAY SEVEN – Travel to Germany

After breakfast we depart Dornbirn and make our way to our overnight hotel back in Germany, just on the French border.  We will be greeted with a welcome glass of fresh fruit juice.  Dinner this evening will be a set 3-course menu.

 

DAY EIGHT - Departure

This morning we make our way back to Calais for our late afternoon crossing to Dover and home.

This 3-star Superior hotel in the south of Saarbrücken is located on the French border. It offers modernized rooms with new Mercure bedding and a seasonal outdoor swimming pool. All rooms at the Mercure Hotel Saarbrücken Süd include air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, and a work desk. Hotel has a lift.

 

HOTEL KRISTALL-SAPHIR, SWITZERLAND

Situated in the middle of the breathtaking mountains in the Saas-Fee/Saas Valley holiday region, this house offers you closeness to nature, every room is fitted with a desk, a private bathroom, a flat-screen TV and a balcony with a mountain view. Some rooms will provide you with a kitchen with a fridge, a dishwasher and an oven. All units include a wardrobe. Hotel has a lift.

 

VIENNA HOUSE BY WYNDHAM MARTINSPARK DORNBIRN

Located in the centre of Dornbirn, this 4-star design hotel Vienna House by Wyndham Martinspark Dornbirn features unique modern architecture and a bar. Free WiFi is available. DAY ONE

We depart from your home early and travel south to Dover for your crossing to Calais.

DAY THREE
