Enjoy a visit to vibrant Bristol and a scenic cruise around its fascinating harbour, spend a leisurely day discovering Wells at your own pace, and explore the beautiful towns of Sherborne and Shaftesbury. From medieval streets and magnificent architecture to picturesque countryside and the famous cobbled Gold Hill, this varied South West escape is full of character and wonderful places to discover.

(13) DAY ONE – Arrival

We depart from your home and travel to Somerset, arriving at The Swan Hotel in Wells during the afternoon for our four-night stay. Settle into our historic city-centre surroundings before dinner this evening.

 

(14) DAY TWO – Bristol and Harbour Cruise

We make our way into Bristol city centre and Harbourside. This once run-down docks area is now transformed into a world-class venue with many attractions, including the S.S. Great Britain, finally restored to her former Victorian splendor. Here we enjoy a cruise around the fascinating harbour and have time for lunch. The afternoon is free for you to explore the city and enjoy some retail therapy

 

(15) DAY THREE – Wells at Leisure

Today is free to enjoy our wonderful base of Wells. Perhaps visit magnificent Wells Cathedral, stroll along historic Vicars’ Close or discover the Bishop’s Palace and Gardens. With medieval streets, independent shops and cafés close to the hotel, the day is yours to enjoy at a relaxed pace.

 

(16) DAY FOUR – Sherborne and Shaftesbury

Our day begins with a drive to Sherborne. Without doubt one of England’s most beautiful towns, it has an abundance of medieval buildings, a superb Abbey, Alms-house and two castles to explore.

 

From here we make for Shaftesbury, an ancient hilltop town famous as the home to cobbled Gold Hill, featured in the Hovis adverts.

 

(17) DAY FIVE – Departure

After breakfast this morning we depart our hotel and begin our journey home, with comfort stops en route.

The hotel also features an outside terrace with wonderful views across Cathedral Green and Wells Cathedral. Owing to the historic nature of the building, there is no lift; ground-floor rooms and walk-in showers are available on request, subject to availability.
