This tour takes us to Hertfordshire, where we visit two fine stately homes in Hatfield House and Knebworth House that have featured in a variety of films, most recently Netflix’s The Crown. We are staying in the unique Comet Hotel that was named after the famous De Havilland Comet (first commercial airplane). So, it’s only right we pay a visit to the De Havilland Aircraft Museum to explore the impact Geoffrey de Havilland had on British Aviation on a guided tour of the museum. We also feature a visit to the city of St Albans that was once the Roman Capital City of Britain with the Roman Wall being able to view in Verulamium Park.

DAY ONE - Arrival

We depart from your home and travel to Hertfordshire with comfort stops en route, arriving late afternoon at the hotel with time to relax before dinner this evening.

 

DAY TWO – Hatfield House

Today we head to Hatfield House, a fine Jacobean House and Garden in a spectacular countryside setting. Here you could explore the various historical and interesting rooms within the house, enjoy the parkland or keep an eye out for memories of your favourite films as Hatfield House is a popular filming location!

 

DAY THREE – De Havilland Aircraft Museum and St Albans

This morning, we travel to the De Havilland Aircraft Museum to see the famous Comet

aircraft our hotel is named after. We enjoy a guided tour with tea/ coffee and biscuits

provided on arrival. Learn the incredible contribution that de Havilland made to British

Aviation for over 80 years.

 

This afternoon we journey to the city of St Albans, known for its impressive Cathedral

and used to be a major Roman city. Today is also market day so enjoying free time at

leisure browsing the market and exploring the city is the order of the day.

 

DAY FOUR – Knebworth House and Welwyn

After breakfast this morning we visit Knebworth House home to generations of the Lytton Family. We enjoy a guided tour to learn the stories and histories and explore 500 years of history and treasures on a guided tour of this impressive Grade II listed stately home, with its romantic façade of turrets, domes and gargoyles. Home to generations of the Lytton family, Knebworth’s stories and precious heirlooms reflect the family’s contribution to literature, politics and foreign service.

 

This afternoon, we have free time in the village of Welwyn, famous for the remains of well-preserved Roman Baths

 

DAY FIVE – Departure

After a leisurely breakfast we depart our hotel and begin our homeward journey with comfort stops en route.
