Shrewsbury | Gloucester | Painswick Rococo Garden | Cheltenham | Gloucestershire and Warwickshire Train Journey | Broadway | Tetbury | Westonbirt Arboretum | Stratford-upon-Avon
We depart from your home and travel first to Shrewsbury, where you have some time to explore before we continue to our hotel with time to relax before dinner this evening.
We spend this morning in Gloucester with time to explore at leisure. You can visit the medieval Cathedral (used in most of the Harry Potter films as Hogwarts), the award-winning Gloucester Waterways Museum overlooking the River Severn, and the recently restored historic Victorian Docks that now buzz with museums, shops, boats, and restaurants.
In the afternoon we make our way to the delightful Cotswold village of Painswick, famous for its churchyard with 99 yew trees. We include an introductory talk with one of the arrivals team before you have time to explore at your leisure. Visit the Rococo Garden, designed in the 1740s for the owner to use as his playground. Positioned in a hidden valley offering spectacular views of the surrounding countryside, it features intriguing garden buildings, magical follies and flowers and colours that transform by the seasons.
This morning we have some free time to explore Cheltenham at leisure. This Regency town, made popular as a spa destination by George III, is brimming with history - it is easy to see why it became a favourite amongst 18th century aristocrats after its health-giving spa waters were discovered. Well then continue our day and join the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway for our train journey from Cheltenham to Broadway. Here, we have time to browse this interesting Cotswold town before returning to our hotel.
Today we head south to Tetbury, an AONB and full of unique boutique shops and plenty of places to eat. This afternoon we visit one of the most mature and extraordinary arboretums in the world. Westonbirt has its roots in the Victorian plant collecting craze boasting 2,500 tree species from around the world. Youll adventure through the canopy on the sites award-winning and fully accessible Treetop Walkway.
After breakfast we depart our hotel and make our journey home, first stopping at Stratford-upon-Avon, for some free time to explore before we continue our journey home with comfort stops en route.
