With its imposing medieval stone wall, Tenby has been a popular destination for many years; a place of a leisure destination for almost 200 years. A place of history, myth and legend. Well also whisk you away through West Wales, to see the gentle giants at Dyfed Shire Horse Farm.
West Wales Guided Tour | Shire Horse Farm | Laugharne | Carmarthen | Tenby
Join us on a journey from your doorstep to the charming town of Tenby. Afternoon arrival gives you plenty of time to unwind before enjoying a delicious dinner this evening.
Today we enjoy the company of our enthusiastic, entertaining, and enlightening guide with a tour of West Wales.
Well then visit Wales only Shire Horse Society Approved farm and meet the Dyfed family of Gentle Giants who have been born and bred at Carnhuan for over 40 years.
We step back in time to learn about and meet these wonderful animals that have played a central part in the story of mankind, going back to the Ice Age! First opened to the public in 1992 and now in its 30th season, the farm has been televised on Escape to the Country and The Farmers Country Showdown and has a strong association with the Royal Family, as the birthplace and final resting place of Dyfed Celt, aka Major Mercury, Drum Horse of the Queens Household Cavalry from 2008-2021. We enjoy a talk and listen to equine stories whilst being fascinated by the harnessing of the Shire, ready for a photo opportunity. A relaxed step back in time in the shade of the mythical Preseli Hills awaits you.
This morning we visit Carmarthen, some say the oldest town in Wales. Its market day, this must-see place which has been around for more than 800 years. Although it dates to Roman times, it has been cleverly updated to become a Mecca for food-lovers, by offering some of the best local produce in Wales. The Market is sited in a modern, airy hall which houses a range of stalls selling everything from arts and crafts, antique and modern jewellery to locally produced meats, fruit and veg, cheeses and cakes. The hustle and bustle and friendly banter between traders and shoppers, makes for a pleasant and welcoming atmosphere.
After lunch we continue our day by visiting the wonderful, picturesque town of Laugharne, which was once home to one of Wales most famous literary sons, Dylan Thomas and his family. Stroll along the main street with its colourful Georgian houses, past the quaint town hall and dramatic Norman castle standing above the beautiful Taf estuary. Listen to the calls of the oystercatchers, and maybe visit the famous Boathouse or St Martins Church.
Enjoy a day of pure relaxation in Tenby. Your hotel is located right across from the beach, offers breath-taking views and is just a short walk away from the town centre. Sit back, unwind, and let the mesmerizing waves and bustling world captivate you.
After breakfast this morning we leave our hotel and make our journey home with comfort stops en route.
