HOLIDAY HIGHLIGHTS

Stratford-upon-Avon   |   Stratford-upon-Avon River Cruise   |   Shakespeare’s Birthplace   |   Blenheim Palace   |   Charlecote House   |   Afternoon Tea at Arden Hotel

DAY ONE – Arrival

We depart from your home and travel south to Stratford-upon-Avon and our hotel.  Time to relax before dinner this evening.

DAY TWO – Stratford-upon-Avon, Shakespeare’s Birthplace and River Cruise

Today we have a wonderful day in Stratford-upon-Avon. We can begin with a relaxing 45-minute river cruise with an engaging guide who will bring Shakespeare’s Stratford to life.  You’ll have time for lunch before we enjoy a visit to Shakespeare’s Birthplace, and a little time to explore on your own before returning to the hotel.

DAY THREE – Blenheim Palace

We spend today at the fabulous Blenheim Palace, the seat of the Dukes of Marlborough. One of England’s largest houses, it was built in the early 1700s and was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987. The palace is a family home, a mausoleum and national monument, and is notable as being the birthplace and ancestral home of Sir Winston Churchill. Here, we can explore the gilded State Rooms, visit the Churchill Exhibition, and wander the Formal Gardens. Download the web app for your guided audio.

DAY FOUR – Charlecote House, Park & Gardens and Lord Leycester Hospital

This morning we make our way to Charlecote House, a grand National Trust property which was one of the first great Elizabethan houses. Queen Elizabeth I stayed here and, as a boy, William Shakespeare got into trouble for poaching here. Nestled in the Warwickshire countryside, along the banks of the River Avon, we can enjoy the house and the gardens with their colourful parterres. We then visit the Lord Leycester Hospital where you can discover 900 years of history. Nine hundred years ago the chapel was built. Then in the 1300s the Guilds built the half-timbered buildings – some of the most important examples of intact medieval architecture in Britain. Today the Lord Leycester is a modern, authentic visitor attraction, featuring stories of the heritage buildings, and residents past and present.

DAY FIVE – Departure

After breakfast this morning we leave our hotel and make our journey home with comfort stops en route.
