Sutton Hoo | Deben Boat Cruise | Ipswich Marina | Helmingham Hall Gardens | Wickham Market
We depart from your home and travel to Ipswich in Suffolk, tea and coffee await you on arrival whilst your luggage is taken to your room.
Today we visit the world-famous Anglo-Saxon burial site of Sutton Hoo, theres so much to see here. We have included a guided tour and you can explore the hauntingly beautiful 255-acre estate which is home to one of the greatest archaeological discoveries of all time.
We discover the story of the ship burial of an Anglo-Saxon king, explore the award-winning exhibition and the full-size reconstruction of the burial chamber (please note, the walk to the burial mounds is a 1015-minute outdoor walk on flat ground, passengers who are less mobile can visit the exhibition, café, and small shop).
This morning, we visit Wickham market where it is market day. Wickham market was recorded in the Little Domesday Book in 1086 when it was called Wikham. You have some free time here to enjoy this large thriving village based in the valley of the river Deben. The weekly market dates to King Henry VI, in 1440. Whilst you are here why not explore the 700-year-old All Saints Church, which dominates the skyline.
We then travel the short distance to Waldringfield where we enjoy a 2-hour cruise with a Deben Tea (fresh scones, jam, butter, and tea/coffee) being served as we sail along the river Deben, one of the most beautiful and scenic spots on the east coast.
Enjoy some free time relaxing and exploring the beautiful marina surrounding our hotel before we make our way later this morning to the spectacular Grade I Listed Helmingham Hall Gardens where we have time for lunch before exploring at our own pace.
They themselves say that It is hard to exaggerate the effect this beautiful park, with its red deer, spectacular moated Hall in mellow patterned red brick with its famous gardens will have on the visitor. And they arent wrong, there is a magical feel to this peaceful estate.
