DAY ONE – Arrival

We depart from your home and travel to Derbyshire arriving late afternoon you will have time to relax before dinner this evening.

 

DAY TWO – Ilam, Dovedale, Ashbourne and Kedleston Hall

Our guide meets us at the hotel before we have a drive to Ilam Hall, built in a battlemented Gothic style and which has been used for films such as Jane Eyre. Our walk then takes us past the picturesque church and through the pretty village of Ilam, built in an Alpine style. We then take a path over fields with views ahead to Thorpe Cloud, the dramatic hill that marks the southern end of Dovedale. From here we take a short walk up the riverside path through the dale to see, and maybe to cross over, the famous Dovedale steppingstones before re-joining the coach. We drive to Ashbourne for our lunch break.

 

This afternoon we continue to Kedleston Hall, a 1760’s mansion designed as a show palace with lavish décor, paintings, furniture and sculptures. Set in 820 acres of beautiful parkland, ideal for a relaxing stroll before ending the visit at the café and shop.

 

DAY THREE – Peak District Sightseeing Tour

Today we have a Peak District sightseeing tour, taking us first to Matlock for a short break before we head for the Peak District ‘capital’ – Buxton. We have time to explore the town with its delightful gardens and pedestrianised centre and to obtain lunch before we continue on our way for an afternoon stop in Bakewell, home of the famous ‘tart’.

 

DAY FOUR – Chatsworth Park and Chatsworth House

After breakfast this morning a guide meets us on the coach as we journey to Beeley. We start with a gentle walk through the pretty estate village, then take a path over fields to Chatsworth Garden Centre where we have a mid-morning break. The walk then continues along the side of the River Derwent through Chatsworth Park with wonderful views across the river to Chatsworth House. This afternoon we include a visit to Chatsworth House.

 

DAY FIVE – Departure

After breakfast this morning we leave our hotel and make our journey home with comfort stops en route.
