We depart from your home and travel to Bournemouth arriving late afternoon you will have time to relax before dinner this evening.
Today we take afternoon tea at Cliffhanger Restaurant to hear tales from Mr Selfridge and his butler of how the original Mr Selfridge rented Highcliffe castle for his family, to live the high-life complete with grand dinner parties and gambling, as you appreciate the life and times and fortunes of this great retailer.
Take in the spectacular views as you cruise through beautiful Poole Harbour and along the start of the Jurassic Heritage Coast. Start your day on charming Poole Quay before boarding our cruise to the Victorian resort of Swanage, passing Brownsea Island, the beaches of Studland Bay and the opening cliffs of the Jurassic coast.
This morning we drive into Swanage. Get ready to be transported back in time on a memorable journey through Purbeck countryside on the award-winning heritage Swanage Railway. A result of the work of several generations of community volunteers and dedicated campaigning by local businessmen, the line now lovingly restored contributes more than £15 million a year to the local economy, bringing tourists to Corfe Castle and Swanage, as well as enabling the transport of clay and local stone.
Swanage was transformed during the Victorian era into a seaside resort and has now settled down into an atmospheric town with a long beach, interesting shops, fresh air and delicious food.
After breakfast this morning we leave our hotel and make our journey home with comfort stops en route.
